The latest developments in electric vehicle (EV) battery technology, testing, repair and recycling will be the subject of the next member meeting of the Vehicle Remarketing Association (VRA).
Planned for Thursday 24 September, at Wilson’s Auctions in Queensferry, near Chester, it aims to examine all the key touchpoints affecting the used vehicle sector and traction batteries.
Speakers include Robin Brundle, co-founder, Recyclus, on battery recycling; Antonia Stephenson, director of operations for EV Battery Solutions, Cox Automotive Europe, on battery repair; Nikolaus Mayerhofer, chief technology officer, Aviloo, on high-voltage “flash” batteries; and CARA, the Car Remarketing Association of Europe, on their European-wide battery health accreditation. Finally, Nick Press of Autotrader will provide an update on the UK new and used car and van sectors.
Philip Nothard, chair at the VRA, said: “Volumes of EVs entering the used market are increasing while, at the same time, those that are already part of the vehicle parc are ageing.
“This raises a whole series of questions for the remarketing sector at all points in the lifecycle of an EV battery. At this meeting, we’ll be seeking to answer as many of these as possible with help from some of the UK and Europe’s leading experts.”
Wilson’s Queensferry auction site has been the recent subject of a four-year, £10 million investment. Based at the headquarters of the town’s old steel works, which once employed 16,000 people, it features stained glass, 19th century Italian tiles and a staircase identical to the Titanic’s.
Philip said: “The VRA will be the first external organisation to use the facilities, which is quite an honour. Recent member meetings have been extremely well attended, and we’re expecting a strong turnout this time around.”
September’s is the final VRA member meeting of 2026, and will be followed by the organisation’s Automotive Summit, taking place on Wednesday 25 November at The Slate, Warwick University.
Philip added: “Registration for the Summit is now open and we’d advise people who are interested in coming along to secure their place as soon as possible.”
