Inchcape buys Armstrong Massey Land Rover business in York

Inchcape has struck a deal to buy the Land Rover site owned by Armstrong Massey in York, joining its existing Jaguar dealership in the City. Inchcape already represents Land Rover under the Hunter brand in Chester, Derby, Guildford, Kings Lynn, Norwich, Preston and Southampton, prompting speculation that the Armstrong Massey dealership could also take on the Hunter mantle.

“Inchcape has agreed terms with Armstrong Massey to acquire its Land Rover site at Tadcaster Rd, York, North Yorkshire for an undisclosed sum,” said a spokesman. The Armstrong Massey deal is the latest in a string of ownership changes within the Jaguar Land Rover networks as JLR changes the shape of its footprint in the UK.

Bill Bexson, managing director of APCsaid: “As part of its planning for rapid growth, JLR is integrating their sales from a network of 90 Jaguar dealers and 120 Land Rover dealers to a smaller network of JLR dealers.

“This exercise is expected to generate significant demand for new sites to cater for the integrated brand,” he said. Recent deals include John Clark acquiring the Frank Ogg Land Rover dealership in Elgin, Scotland, Cambria automobiles buying Land Rover in Swindon from TH White and Vertu buying Land Rover in Bury from Pendragon.

The deal complemented its existing Land Rover dealerships in Nelson, Lancashire and across West Yorkshire and further extends the Farnell brand in the region
