- Aston Barclay continue sponsorship of 2016 British Touring Car Championship runner-up, Sam Tordoff
- Tordoff switches to British GT for 2017, driving Barwell Motorsport’s Lamborghini Huracan GT3
- Tordoff also embarks on European Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup campaign for Strakka Racing
Aston Barclay Group has renewed its sponsorship with Sam Tordoff as the 27-year-old prepares for his new venture into British GT and the European Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup.
Following an extremely successful British Touring Car Championship campaign in 2016, which saw Tordoff pipped to the title by just two points, the leading national independent vehicle remarketing group will continue to support him for a third consecutive season.
The West Yorkshireman will make his British GT debut for the Barwell Motorsport with GardX team, sharing the No.6 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 with Liam Griffin throughout the nine-round championship that starts with the traditional Easter weekend visit to Oulton Park.
Running in parallel with his national campaign, Tordoff will also make his first appearance in the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup. Sharing the grid alongside some of the world’s best GT drivers, Tordoff will compete for Strakka Racing in the McLaren 650S GT3, sharing its No.44 entry with Le Mans veteran Jonny Kane and David Fumanelli.
Aston Barclay’s logo will feature on Tordoff’s British GT car and overalls, with its dedicated customer base able to cheer him on at some of the UK and Europe’s best circuits throughout his dual 2017 campaign. The Bradford-born driver will visit Silverstone twice, firstly on May 14th as part of his Blancpain schedule, then again on 10/11 June.
As part of the British GT’s annual trip overseas, Tordoff will visit the fearsome Spa-Francorchamps circuit in early July, returning three weeks later to make his 24-hour debut in the Blancpain GT Series’ showpiece round-the-clock event.
All races in the 2017 British GT Championship will be shown live on the Freeview platform, with BT Sport and Eurosport showing all Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup events either live or through extended highlights.
Tom Mapes, Marketing Manager at Aston Barclay, commented on the renewed partnership; “We’re extremely proud to continue our sponsorship of Sam as he embarks on an intense UK and European schedule. As we saw last year, our customers are extremely passionate motorsport fans, with many going to witness the racing up-close and personal to cheer Sam on; these events are the ideal time to thank them for their continued support.
“We look forward to enjoying these fantastic events and widening awareness of the Aston Barclay brand through the extensive coverage that Sam will receive throughout 2017,” he added.
